Charles Cole, who this year completes his three-year term as Illinois State Representative of the Defense Research Institute (DRI), will receive little chance to rest on his laurels. Recently DRI—a national association comprised of defense attorneys and corporate counsel—named Chuck to its Permanent Steering Committee for the organization’s annual meeting, a prestigious appointment considering more than 2,000 professionals attend this event each year. In addition, DRI appointed him to its Strategic Planning Committee. Clearly, both assignments affirm a belief national leaders share that DRI—some 21,000 members strong—will continue to benefit from his input and expertise.
“I am as humbled by the vote of confidence DRI’s leadership has cast,” says Chuck, “as I remain dedicated to DRI’s mission, where professional enhancement and public education bear equal weight with our commitment to improve the civil justice system.”
A series of leadership roles in the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel (IDC) precipitated his involvement in DRI, beginning with his election to IDC’s Board of Directors in 1992 (nomination having originated on the membership floor) and culminating in 2001 when he was unanimously elected president. On the heels of his presidency IDC’s Board of Directors elected Chuck to serve the organization as its state representative in DRI, the national, parent body.
